The Student Council
The Student Council is the practicing organ for the students at UiS. This means that the Student council works on a daily basis for student-rights and do the work tasks that the SP delegates to the council.
The Student council is in manyways the core of StOr, and is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and see through tasks that optimize the benefits of being a student at UiS. Examples of our tasks are monthly meetings to see through our proposals with the university and the SiS management, meetings with the deans concerning subject quality, participation for better pedagogics, meetings with the IT-department to improve processes of changing equipment, meetings with Kolumbus and the county to improve public transport offers, function as the link for student organizations and line organizations at UiS, keep dialog with legal representatives to resolve complaints from students, improve the student village and open possibilities for welfare offers for students, student residencies and more. Briefly, the Student council works on executing what the students and the SP wants to focus on.
The Student Council consist of six students, one President, a Vice President, a Judicial Officer, an International Officer, a Academical Officer and a Faculty Officer. In addition we refer on a daily basis with a consultant from UiS, hired to guide and direct us in our work. The consultant also works closely with the rest of StOr, and should be there for all representatives of StOr or other boards from different student- and bar associations.
President
Works with the most pressing matters, and is the closest link to the UiS management and others such as departments, council and county boards.
Vice President
Works closely with SiS and for all student organizations and bar associations, as well as the market.
Judicial Officer
Works for and can answer legal questions concerning your education, bullying and exams.
Subject and learning environment Officer
Works actively to improve education and learning environment at all institutions at UiS.
International Officer
Works with integration methods for international students, as well as opportunities for exchange of norwegian students.
Faculty Officer
Works closely with StOr SV, StOr TN and StOr HUM concerning student representation, rights and chosen representatives.

How do I join the Student Council?
It is the Student Parliament (SP) who elect the representatives for the Student Council. The election happens before summer, and you have to report your candidature for one of the available posts to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before the first half of the spring semester. An election committee assigned by the SP will interview and review all applications before they send a recommendation to the SP. The election committee has not got the right to vote on the candidates, and the SP is permitted to go against their recommendation and elect another student if they wish.
The President and Vice President have a full time 100% position, which means that students in these positions have to take time off from their studies. The rest of the representatives are in 17% positions, and have a minimum of one working day per week. More work in certain parts of the year must be allowed for. All positions are payed after percent of work. The Student Council starts on the 15th of June and sits until the 30th of June in the following year. This allows for 15 days of overlap with truing and competence transfer. The students at the Student Council have to speak norwegian.
