Get involved!

It is important to get involved because you are allowed to influence your experience at your school. To participate in student activities gives an experience of having a purpose. You don’t just work for yourself, but for the whole student body. You get to influence what concerns us most as students.

In addition to being significant and having an impact on everyday student life, the experience of being involved is equally important. You meet new people and establish a new network filled with good friends. It is not just academic work involved in being active, but it is also very social and fun!
Get involved

To get involved can seem difficult, especially when you most likely don’t know anyone who is involved or has never participated before. The truth is that many in StOr have also experienced this, but when you get in touch, you will immediately find out that what you believed was not the reality. To become involved is not difficult. StOr needs students to participate, and we will help you find a place in StOr that is right for you!

There are many different positions one can apply for. You can be a class representative, who is chosen by the students in your class. You can sit on the Faculty Board or run for a position in the Parliament. These positions are decided in a school election, where all the students at the University of Stavanger vote for who they want to hold positions in the students’ highest governing body. You can also run for a position on the Student Board. These positions are decided by the Parliament (not a part of the general University election).

Student representatives are also needed for the many advisory and committees at UiS. It is also possible to get involved in something you are interested in, but not hold a position in the student government. UiS has many different student organizations which have open doors for students who will help.

Get involved by voting

If you don’t want to participate by holding a position or being in a student organization, it is important that you use your right to vote. All of the students at UiS decide who will hold the positions in the Student Parliament. It is important that everyone participates by voting, such that student receive the best possible Parliament. You should vote for the person you believe can best represent you as a student and can do a good job.

So do yourself and all the students at UiS a favor: VOTE in the autumn elections!
