The student ombudsman is called Line Aspøy. She is an independent support person who works for students at UiS, and is responsible for, among other things, guiding, advising and assisting students, and ensuring that students' cases are handled properly and correctly. The student ombudsman is bound by confidentiality and neither students nor the university have access to the student ombudsman's cases. Both students and employees can notify the ombudsman of objectionable matters that affect the students' study situation. The student ombudsman can also, on its own initiative, initiate and conduct investigations into the handling of student cases and other matters that affect the students' situation, and can, if necessary, submit cases directly to the board.
