The student representative's name is Maren Anne Kvaløy. She is an independent support person who works for students at UiS, and must, among other things, guide, advise and assist students, and ensure that the students' cases are properly and correctly handled. The student ombudsman has a duty of confidentiality and neither students nor the university have a right of access to the student ombudsman's affairs.
Both students and staff can notify the ombudsman of objectionable conditions that affect the students' study situation. The student ombudsman can also on his own initiative initiate and carry out investigations into the handling of student matters and other matters that affect the students' situation, and can, if necessary, bring matters forward directly to the board.
